A group of 1st & 2nd years had a filmmaking workshop at the end of February with award-winning filmmaker www.clairedix.net
Students had prepared for this by engaging with the idea of making a book trailer for two books – ‘Perfect’ and ‘On the Edge’. Books were read, example trailers viewed, storyboards introduced and students had talked about the roles they might be interested in, so we were well prepared when Claire arrived. It was a very intensive day of filming, particularly for ‘Perfect’ which was live action. Students were tired, but happy at the end of the day. Snow meant day 2 (editing) was postponed until March.
The finished book trailers will be exhibited at this year’s ‘Make A Book’ exhibition on March 21, in the Bonnington Hotel. More to come on this!
World Book Day
World Book Day was postponed due to the snow, but the brilliant 3rd years with Ms O’Shea, held a fantastic book sale on March 7th, selling everything from picture books to classics as well as tasty treats! Well done to all.
We also had amazing nail artist Joanna Figasinska on board doing beautiful nail art based on five favourite student books ‘How to be Massive’, ‘Milk and Honey’, ‘Girl Online’, ‘The Fault in our Stars’ and ‘Wonder’. Students were chosen for this based on their borrowing from the library, Accelerated Reader achievements and efforts in the library. You can see the photos below. Joanna’s website is www.magneticireland.com
Mysterious posters also appeared around the school for students to guess the titles of various books based on picture clues. There were 12 winners, in a very popular competition!
Well done to all!
