One of our favourite visitors to the JCSP library is Cork rapper Garry MacCarthy (GMC Beats). His song and rap workshops allow students to work in small groups to co-write verses of a rap and chorus and then record their vocals professionally using his mobile recording studio.
Students can then perform their song at WRaPParound - an annual JCSP Library event which attracts schools from all over the country. Last year, students from Iris & Swift performed at Trinity College to massive applause and the current 1st years may participate in May.
Our 2nd years co-wrote their song with class tutor Ms Roche as part of an anti-bullying initiative; Garry recorded the song and a music video!
These workshops give students the opportunity to develop their spoken language, their communication – listening and expressing themselves and developing good relationships as they work in small groups creating lyrics. It's one of the student's favourite workshops - have a listen and see why!
3rd year songs are 'Fit In' and 'Knock me Down'.
2nd year song: 'Be a Friend'
1st year song: 'Bold Girls'
