Our library at Margaret Aylward CC is part of the JCSP Library Demonstration Project – one of only 30 nationwide, staffed by a professional librarian, open to the entire school community, but primarily catering for the Junior Cycle students. There are 6 networked PC’s and an extensive collection of Young Adult books, general fiction, nonfiction, magazines, dvds, teacher resources, literacy and numeracy games and audio books.
The school’s literacy and numeracy strategy is reflected in everything we do and plan to do; aiming to improve student attainment, by providing access to research materials for homework and JCSP class projects such as Make a Book, by stimulating interest in reading for pleasure, by collaborating with the Maths department on numeracy initiatives and by promoting information literacy and library skills among the students.
Not only that – we will continue established initiatives such as Drop Everything And Read, the Digital Library and the very popular Junior and Senior lunchtime bookclubs - all of which helped the school to win a National reading award recently – The Wellread Award!
The JCSP Library has lots of plans for the school year - paired reading with local primary schools, Word of the Day, a new creative writing club, and maybe a craft club next year. Parents and guardians are also welcome to visit and borrow. The library is a space to participate but also to relax, play music, chat or read!
Why not pay us a visit!!!!
