There has always been very strong links between Margaret Aylward CC and DCU. Very many students have participated in classes, workshops, student shadowing and Award ceremonies run by the DCU Access programme. We were very interested when we heard that DCU were changing their Access Programme to UNITY (for Transition Year Students) and UFirst (for 5th and 6th years).
The aim of the programme is to take students who are 'College Aware' and help them to become 'College Ready'. It is a wonderful opportunity to take part in a programme on a monthly basis in DCU, right through 5th year. It offers mentoring, support, classes, careers workshops and personal development support to the students taking part.
Each school with whom DCU works was offered at least one of the fifty places available on UFirst, this year. Seven 5th year students applied, we hoped for maybe two places.... however each of the seven students has been offered a UFirst place.
What an opportunity for Jodie Clarke, Shanley Corbally, Bronagh Doyle, Niamh Doyle, Nicole Keane Flood, Amy Knight and Kelly Moran. We wish them well.
